What is Self-Leadership?
Self-Leadership / Internal Family Systems (IFS) is an evidence-based coaching model by renowned US therapist Richard Schwarz. The IFS Model represents a new synthesis of two already-existing paradigms: systems thinking and the multiplicity of the mind. It fosters multidimensional thinking and promotes inner and outer connectedness.
As a team leader, Self-Leadership technique provides a structured approach to overcome team blockages and inspire creativity, innovation, and motivation.
Also, it helps individuals to identify their own drivers fueling personal growth.
Why is Self-Leadership important?
Due to demanding corporate cultures, most people are in the fight or flight mode for 70% of the day (Dr. Joe Dispenza), leading to unconscious behavioral patterns that often cause more stress than benefit due to high energy consumption. Self-Leadership creates awareness of one's own actions, provides support in challenging situations, and offers clarity for decision-making. The appreciative process activates understanding and motivation internally as well as within the external team.
5 hacks for quick implementation
- Creating awareness: Recognizing the differentiation between internal and external stresses.
- What is being brought to me?
- What comes from within, for example, through protectors?
- Unraveling your own behaviour patterns and blockages: Recognising and changing energy drainers.
- 'You have no fun, you are no fun'
- Energy drainers mean not feeling centered but being driven.
3. Creating security: Recognising what I need.
- Self-reflection helps us get to know our inner team with all its roles.
- Thus we can control emotions more effectively.
4. Being able to read and control the patterns of others: Recognizing what my team needs.
- When I find a clear way to deal with myself and my roles, I can also manage my team more effectively.
5. Conflict avoidance: Distinguishing between goals, needs, triggers, and attacks.
- When I understand my stressors, I can also focus better on the essentials.
